Tatsugiri (竜桐 Paulownia Tree Dragon) is a nagamaki that is owned by Kuryuu Ango.
Description[]
Tatsugiri is a standard Nagamaki. It had a long, well-crafted blade, with a round guard, and an equally long handle made of wood. Most of the handle is covered in black cloth wrapping, similar to those found on a katana. At the extremity of the handle there's a small ring-like pommel.
Usage[]
Tatsugiri is used as a standard nagamaki, taking advantage of its size and weight to slash at the enemy and crush him with raw power. Thanks to it's long handle it can be a flexible weapon like the naginata. Ango helds this weapon with both hands, one of them always placed just under the hilt.
Trivia[]
- Its name is an homophone for "Dragon Killer" (kiri/giri means both paulownia and to cut).
- During the battle against the Ogame School inside Ayanaka Forest the size of the blade seems to keep shifting size as in certain panels it looks longer and bigger. This is probably a minor graphic overlook.
